Yes, it prevents over-engineering the foundation. In Nepal, many contractors use a 'standard' amount of steel regardless of soil type. If your soil is firm, a test proves you can use less steel safely, saving significant costs in rebar and concrete volume.
PPC is generally cheaper and better for masonry and plastering. Use OPC (Ordinary Portland Cement) for structural elements like slabs and columns for quick setting. For brickwork and plaster, PPC (Portland Pozzolana Cement) is cheaper and has a slower heat of hydration, which reduces cracks.
Align bathrooms and kitchens vertically. By stacking bathrooms on the ground floor and first floor in the same vertical line, you reduce the length of PPR/CPVC pipes needed and decrease the labor hours required for installation.
Labor-only contracts often save money if you can manage procurement. In a 'labor-only' contract, you buy the materials yourself. This allows you to hunt for discounts and ensures you get the exact brand and quality you paid for, though it requires more of your time.
