Look for brands that provide FE 500D grade with high ductility (at least 14.5% elongation). In Nepal, brands like Laxmi, Panchakanya, or Arghakhanchi provide quality TMT bars. However, rather than just the brand name, always ask for the 'Batch Test Certificate' from the vendor to verify the chemical composition and elongation properties before purchase.
Yes, for reducing earthquake load and thermal insulation, especially in the Terai. AAC blocks are lighter, which reduces the seismic force on your structure. They are excellent for the Terai due to thermal insulation, but for load-bearing traditional houses in the hills, high-quality burnt clay bricks are still the standard.
No, it depends on the usage; OPC is for structure, PPC is for finishing. OPC 53 is ideal for high-strength requirements like slabs and pillars. However, for plastering and brickwork, PPC is superior because it is more workable, has less heat of hydration, and is more resistant to chemical attacks and moisture.
Use integral waterproofing liquid in concrete and ensure proper 'DPC' at the plinth level. Dampness usually rises from the ground. A proper Damp Proof Course (DPC) at the plinth level and adding chemicals like Dr. Fixit or Fosroc to your exterior plaster and roof concrete is the only permanent solution for Nepal's heavy rains.
