The Source of Water Sets the Tone
With groundwater doing much of the heavy lifting in Nepali homes, the boring or well is often the true water source of the house — and in Vastu, the point where fresh water enters the plot carries strong prosperity energy. Placed correctly, it supports health and abundance; placed wrongly, it can work against them. And because a boring is fixed once drilled, this is a decision worth planning carefully before the rig arrives.
Best Direction for a Borewell or Well
A natural water source belongs in the light, water-friendly zones of the plot:
- The north-east (Ishanya) is the most auspicious direction for a borewell, well or water source — it strengthens prosperity, health and clarity.
- The north (Kubera) and east (Indra) are also favourable.
- Avoid boring in the south-east, south-west, south and the exact centre (Brahmasthan).
- A water source in the south-west is considered particularly inauspicious, as it disturbs the stability zone.
Practical Boring Guidelines
- Choose the exact point with both a Vastu consultant and a groundwater surveyor — energy and geology should agree.
- Keep the boring well away from the septic tank (about 15 metres or per local rules) to protect water quality.
- Do not drill the boring right against the house foundation or a load-bearing wall.
- Cap and seal the borehead to keep out contaminants.
Underground Water & the Slope of the Plot
Vastu prefers a plot that is lower and open in the north-east, which is also where you want your water. During construction:
- Maintain the natural slope from the higher south-west to the lower north-east.
- Keep the north-east corner light — no heavy overhead tank, staircase or store there.
- Pair the north-east boring/sump with an overhead tank in the south-west for balance.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Drilling a boring in the south-west or south-east to suit convenience rather than Vastu.
- Placing the water source and septic tank too close together.
- Building a heavy pump room or structure over the north-east water source.
- Ignoring the borewell position until the slab and layout are already fixed.
The Bottom Line
Keep your water source where Vastu keeps prosperity — the north-east, with the north and east as good alternatives — and pair it with a south-west overhead tank. Decide the boring point early, with both a Vastu consultant and a hydro-geologist, so energy and water yield line up. At VastuVeda Designs we fix the water source, sump and tank positions on the layout before construction, so the home is balanced from its very source.
