Light, neutral shades like off-white, light grey, or 'Morning Glory' are best for small spaces. In Nepal's dusty environment, light colors reflect natural light better, making narrow rooms feel wider. We recommend using washable plastic emulsion paints from brands like Asian Paints or Berger, specifically in shades of cream or soft grey, to maintain brightness and ease of cleaning.
Incorporate a central light well or a 'Sky-light' in your architectural plan. A vertical light well (a modern Chowk) is the most effective way. By leaving a small 3x3 or 4x4 area open from the roof down to the lower floors and covering it with toughened glass, you ensure that even the middle rooms of a long, narrow house receive daylight.
They range from NPR 2.5 Lakh to over 10 Lakh depending on materials and size. A basic modular kitchen with marine-ply and laminate finish typically starts around NPR 2,50,000 for a standard 3-aana house kitchen. Costs increase if you opt for high-gloss acrylic finishes, premium hardware like Blum, or quartz countertops instead of granite.
Vitrified tiles are generally more practical for modern Nepali homes. While marble is prestigious, it requires regular polishing and can stain. High-quality 2x2 or 2x4 vitrified tiles are scratch-resistant, easier to clean in our climate, and come in many designs that mimic natural stone at a lower cost (NPR 150-250 per sq. ft.).
