Electricity Is a Fire Element
In Vastu, anything that generates heat or energy belongs to the fire element (Agni), and that includes your electrical system β the meter, main board, inverter, batteries and solar. With load-shedding now behind us but backup and solar increasingly common in Nepali homes, planning these at the wiring stage keeps them both safe and Vastu-aligned. Get it right on the drawings and you avoid ugly, unsafe retrofits later.
Meter, Main Board & Heavy Electricals
- The south-east (Agni corner) is the ideal zone for the meter box, main distribution board, inverter and batteries.
- The south is an acceptable alternative for electrical equipment.
- Avoid heavy electricals in the north-east (sacred zone) and, ideally, the north-west and south-west.
- Generators and heat-producing equipment also suit the south-east.
Inverter & Battery Placement
- Place the inverter and battery bank in the south-east, or the south if needed.
- Keep them in a well-ventilated, dry area β batteries release gases and need airflow.
- Do not place the inverter/battery in a bedroom, pooja room or the north-east.
- Mount the equipment clear of the floor and away from water sources.
Rooftop Solar
Solar is increasingly popular in Nepal, and its Vastu is mostly practical:
- Solar panels perform best facing south (with a tilt) for maximum generation β which also sits comfortably with Vastu's fire/energy logic.
- Mount panels on the higher south or west part of the roof, keeping the north-east terrace open.
- Place the solar inverter and batteries in the south-east, following the same rule as other electricals.
- Ensure the mounting does not block the roof drainage or pond water.
Wiring & Safety
- Plan the wiring, conduits and points at the structural stage β chasing walls later is messy and weakens plaster.
- Use proper earthing, MCBs/RCCBs and correctly rated cables β electrical safety always comes before any Vastu preference.
- Keep switchboards at a consistent height and away from water taps.
- Route the main incoming supply and meter to the south-east where the layout allows.
The Bottom Line
Treat your electrical system as fire: put the meter, main board, inverter and batteries in the south-east, face rooftop solar to the south, and keep heavy electricals out of the sacred north-east. Plan it at the wiring stage, with safety and proper earthing first, and your home is powered in a way that is efficient, safe and Vastu-aligned. At VastuVeda Designs we mark the electrical zones, inverter room and solar layout on the services drawings, so power and Vastu are designed in, not bolted on.
